A team of CSA anesthesiologists converged on Sacramento last week, representing your interests and joining colleagues from the California Medical Association in the annual CMA Legislative Advocacy Day on April 14. CSA officers taking part included President Paul Yost, MD, and past Presidents Mark Singleton, MD, and Peter Sybert, MD, along with CSA’s District Director Jeffrey Uppington, MD, Mark Zakowski, MD, chair of the CSA’s Legislative and Practice Affairs Division and Jeffrey Poage, MD, vice chair of the CSA’s Legislative and Practice Affairs Division.
Dr. Yost had the chance to shake the hand of Governor Jerry Brown when the governor made a surprise guest appearance at lunch on Tuesday, though it happened too quickly for us to take a photo! Brown told the group of more than 300 physicians and medical students that he was pleased they were there to provide guidance during the crucial healthcare hearings now taking place in the Capitol. The issues are controversial, the Governor said, “but I’m glad that you are part of the debate. We need your help.”
